Be Heard

  • Give clear expectations
  • Be a role model

Give Clear Expectations Making sure your voice is heard, and is stronger than the competing pushes and pulls of peer pressure.

Every time your teen makes an important choice about safety, you want your ideas, values, and expectations to influence the decision. Remember those images where a good voice or angel sitting on one shoulder whispers in a person’s ear while a sinister figure whispers in the other?

Although your teen’s friends are often a positive influence, don’t be surprised when they sometimes have different expectations than you do. You want to make sure your voice is loudly heard when your teen is making a decision. The key is that your teen clearly understands your safety concerns and expectations.
